To .net or not to .net ?

Ok..... I have this HUGE prob. I heard that the final project has a really massive impact on one's carrier. So, I thought of doing it in .net, cos that's the hip thing now & in the forseeable future to come.

But, alas, we, the BIT batch, are not taught .net, being the underdogs than our computing batch counterparts!!!!!

What exactly is the point of that???!!! Are we expected to show proper colours with prehistoric "Visual Basic 6", which even MSDN has stopped providing help upon???!!!, Or use a language like Java to have a comparative disadvantage in making the application ??

If I am to go with a VB project to a company which is working in .net (since most companies are), wouldn't I have a disadvantage about the fact that I can't program in .net platform & they would have to teach me???

I've tried to learn it under Mr. Bru & Miss Zeenath, but all the incourse stuff in APIIT has made it impossible to me & the others who were following to stop that brilliant endeavour

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"brilliant endeavour" is not quite how I would word it, but .NET definitely is the choice over VB6. Come on man, NOBODY writes apps with VB6 now. .NET is better cos it has finally achieved OO-ness and it's somewhat like Java too.

Now the thing about Java is, it actually is better than .NET in most aspects (like availability of libraries and portability), for now and the usage still requires a bit of savvy to get the best out of it. .NET on the other hand is very user-friendly (with the Visual Studio, of course) and therefore is an ideal tool for a BIT dude.

So, whenever you get the chance, do your projects in .NET. Don't ever try to get back to VB6. In a short time, tech support for VB6 will also disappear (including the tech support at APIIT) After that it's .NET all the way for y'all!
